DINITROL 81 Spray is an anti-corrosion wax for steel, other metals and painted surfaces. It dries transparent, so the part stays visible under the protective layer, including serial numbers and markings. It does not cover markings or part numbers, protects areas at risk of galvanic corrosion, is not tacky and does not attract dust.

DINITROL 81 Spray protects steel, other metals and painted surfaces against corrosion, but unlike thicker underbody and cavity products it does not leave an opaque layer. Once the solvents have evaporated, a thin transparent wax film of approximately 25 μm remains on the part.
This means you can check the condition of the protected surface by eye at any time, without having to remove and reapply the protection.
Numbers and markings stay legible. On parts with a serial number, stamping or type plate there is no need for masking, you simply apply the protection over the whole surface.
The surface does not attract dust. The film dries hard, so dirt does not settle on stored parts the way it does on soft preservation waxes.
A solution for galvanic corrosion. Where two different metals meet and electrochemical corrosion is a risk, the wax layer seals the contact point off from moisture.
Dries in approximately 30 minutes. Parts are ready for handling or packing fairly quickly, which helps when shipping larger quantities.
DINITROL 81 is most commonly used to preserve finished parts during storage and transport, where metal needs temporary protection but still has to be worked on or visually inspected.
It is also used in electrical installations, where a thicker opaque layer would get in the way of inspecting connections and terminals.
The substrate must be clean, dry and free from corrosion before application, as the wax will also preserve any rust that has not been removed first. Remove dirt, grease and any other residue that could impair the adhesion of the protective layer.
For degreasing before application, use DINITROL 7450 universal cleaner. Further products can be found in the surface preparation category.
Note: this wax must not be painted over
DINITROL 81 is not a base coat for paint. If you need to renew or reinforce the protection, apply another coat of the same product.
Further anti-corrosion products for metal parts can be found in the DINITROL metal surface protection category.
Protection type: transparent wax film

Volume: 500 ml
Application temperature: 15–30 °C
Recommended dry film thickness: approx. 25 μm
Recommended wet film thickness: approx. 160 μm
Drying time: approx. 30 minutes
Overpainting: not intended to be painted over
Removal: hydrocarbon solvents
It depends on the environment. Indoors and in storage it lasts considerably longer than when exposed to the weather outdoors. Because the layer is transparent, you can check its condition at any time and apply another coat as needed.
Yes, the wax film can be removed with a standard hydrocarbon solvent such as white spirit or DINITROL 7450 universal cleaner.
Both leave a transparent film, but DINITROL 4010 withstands temperatures up to 200 °C and creeps into joints like a cavity wax, which makes it suitable for the engine bay. DINITROL 81 is a thinner preservation film (25 μm compared to 40 μm) intended mainly for the storage and transport of parts.
