COLOURLOCK Old Leather Softener is a special product designed to soften old, dried-out and hardened leather. It restores flexibility and suppleness to old, stiff leather, penetrates deep into the fibres to revive the material and helps prevent cracking and further damage.
COLOURLOCK Old Leather Softener is a special oil designed to restore elasticity to hardened, shrunken or brittle leather. Over time, and through lack of care, leather fibres stick together and dry out, which leads to cracking. This product penetrates deep into the structure of the material, loosens the stiffened fibres and gives the leather back its suppleness.
Restores the structure: Permanently loosens stiffened leather fibres.
Prevents damage: Significantly reduces the risk of old leather cracking and breaking further.
Prepares for repair: An ideal first step before professional restoration and dyeing.
Extends service life: Gives valuable historic pieces back their original softness.
The product is intended mainly for older, neglected and stiff leather:
Classic cars: Restoration of original leather interiors.
Antique furniture: Restoration of historic armchairs and sofas.
Museum exhibits: Conservation and softening of leather artefacts.
Leather goods: Older leather suitcases, belts and cases.
Preparation: First clean the leather surface thoroughly (e.g. with COLOURLOCK Mild/Strong Cleaner) and let it dry.
Order of work: If the leather needs cracks repaired with liquid leather, do this before applying the softener.
Application: Apply the Softener to a sponge or soft cloth and wipe it evenly over the leather surface. Tip: Where possible (e.g. with removed covers), apply the product to the back of the leather – it will be absorbed more effectively.
Dwell time: After application, leave the leather to rest for at least 24 hours at room temperature.
Working the leather: After each coat, carefully massage, flex and knead the leather in your hands. This mechanical movement helps loosen the fibres.
Repetition: Repeat the process if necessary, but no more than 3 times. A completely hardened car interior requires no more than 1 litre of product.
Finishing: If you plan to dye the leather afterwards, the surface must be degreased again. Finally, treat the leather with a protection product.
Shake well before use!
Sensitivity test: Always test the product on a hidden area first. Check for changes in colour and feel.
Warning: The Softener cannot work miracles on extremely shrunken leather (where the proteins have been damaged by heat), but it can significantly improve the condition of dry leather.
Storage: Protect from frost and high temperatures.
