Clay is a special type of clay that gently and effortlessly removes chemically aggressive contaminants, known as "contaminants," from the surfaces of paint, glass, chrome, and most hard surfaces.

Want to know more? Watch our video about this product from Meguiar's:

What is clay used for?

  • Clay removes chemically aggressive contaminants (known as "contaminants") that adhere to the surface of the paint and cannot be removed by regular washing or mechanical polishing.
  • By using clay, you decontaminate the car's surface and achieve a surface as smooth as glass.
  • A perfectly smooth surface can then be polished better and wax or other paint protection will last significantly longer on it.

How do I know when it's time to use clay?

  • After washing and drying the vehicle, run an open palm over the body. If you hear a characteristic crackling sound and feel bumpiness and unevenness rising from the paint, it's time to use clay.
  • The roughness of the surface is caused by contaminants stuck to the car's body (falling rust, brake dust, tree sap, asphalt, etc.). These contaminants cannot be removed by regular washing or mechanical polishing. They bond with the car's paint day by day, week by week, and must be removed before they penetrate the lower layers of the paint, where they cannot be removed without repainting.

What contaminants does clay remove?

  • falling rust
  • asphalt specks
  • paint overspray
  • tree sap
  • tar
  • old brake dust
  • dried insects
  • dried bird droppings
  • other chemically aggressive contaminants that cannot be removed by regular washing
  • CLAY does not remove subsurface paint defects (scratches, stains, oxidation, holograms, etc.) - these defects require the use of some polishes from Meguiar's)!

How does clay work?

  • Clay captures contaminants and gently pulls them out from the paint and other hard surfaces.
  • Through decontamination, a surface as smooth as glass can be achieved.

Will I damage my paint when working with clay?

  • By following a very simple working procedure, you will achieve stunning results without damaging the paint!

Is clay abrasive or does it have abrasive properties?

  • No, clay is not abrasive and has no abrasive properties. Therefore, it does not weaken the paint in any way and there is no risk of damaging the surface you are working on.

How often should I use clay?

  • There is no fixed interval for using clay. The need for its use depends on many factors (how often you drive the vehicle, where you park, how often you wash the vehicle, etc.). The best way to determine the need for clay is to run your hand over a clean body surface.

How long will one block of clay last me?

  • The lifespan of each block is limited and depends on its pollution.
  • An older block is full of captured contaminants that it removes from the car's body. CLAY will then be dark and not as fine and smooth to the touch. Such clay, or clay that falls on the ground, should be replaced for the sake of your own interest, otherwise the risk of scratching the paint surface increases!

Is it necessary to use clay before waxing the car?

  • Contaminants bonded to the paint surface prevent its shine and perfect reflection of light. If you use wax on such a contaminated surface, you will never achieve the desired result. In contrast, paint that has been stripped of all surface contaminants by clay is ready for surface treatments with polish and wax, allowing you to achieve maximum results.

What is the best lubricant to use with clay?

  • For optimal results, we recommend the included A3316 Meguiar's Quik Detailer.

Does CLAY remove wax layers?

  • Yes, clay is designed to remove all surface contaminants and also removes any protective layer applied earlier. We strongly recommend re-sealing the paint with wax or another suitable product for maximum protection after using clay.

Does clay remove scratches or surface defects in the paint?

  • No, clay does not remove any subsurface paint defects.
  • Remember that scratches, stains, holograms, and other defects are beneath the paint's surface. These defects require the use of some polishes from Meguiar's afterwards.
  • For best results, it is recommended to first decontaminate the paint with clay (to remove surface, chemically aggressive contaminants) and then use the appropriate polishes to remove paint defects.

How should I store clay?

  • Clay should be stored in a clean place and must also be protected from dust and dirt.

The set includes:

G1001 Meguiar's Clay Bar, 80 g

  • Clay (read as "klej") is a special type of clay that removes from your paint everything that regular washing cannot handle - asphalt specks, falling rust, tree sap, etc.
  • Is the paint surface rough and not smooth like glass after washing and drying? Then it's time to use clay!
  • Thoroughly lubricate the paint surface with the included detailer.
  • Using clay requires no effort - simply "glide" the included block over the paint and all contaminants are gone!

A3316 Meguiar's Quik Detailer, 473 ml

  • A product designed for lubricating clay.
  • Also serves for regular maintenance of your vehicle - safely removes light contaminants and prevents damage to the paint while removing dirt such as fingerprints, dust, smudges, and more.
  • This product also boosts the wax layer on the vehicle and significantly extends the lifespan of the wax protection.

Application procedure:

  • Shape a piece of clay into a patty approximately 5 cm in diameter.
  • Work on a part of the body about 50 x 50 cm in size, after treating it, proceed to the next section.
  • Thoroughly lubricate the paint and clay with the detailer, wipe the wet surface with clay.
  • DO NOT apply pressure on the clay while working!
  • Work with parallel movements, approximately 15-20 cm long. Wipe the entire section first in one direction and then wipe the same section perpendicular to the original direction.
  • Finally, wipe the entire section dry with a microfiber cloth.
  • If some contaminants resist, repeat the process, but in no case should you increase the pressure on the piece of clay!

Tips for using clay:

  • Always work in the shade and on a body that is cool to the touch.
  • Never apply pressure to the clay while working!
  • If you drop a block of clay on the ground, do not attempt to clean it and throw it away. Clay picks up so many contaminants upon contact with the ground that it may subsequently damage your paint!
  • Always adequately dampen the paint surface and clay with the detailer.
