DINITROL 540 PUREACTIV activator 30 ml

Description

DINITROL 540 is a clear solvent-based activator that dries both physically and by reacting with moisture in the air. It is designed for pre-treating cut surfaces of old polyurethane adhesive, meaning the remains of the original bead onto which the new glass is bonded.

It is also used on glass with a factory-fitted polyurethane frame (PU-RIM) and for bonding plastic parts in the automotive industry.

Do not use the activator once it has thickened

The activator reacts with moisture in the air, so use it within a few days of opening.

If it thickens on contact with air, it must not be used any more because it can no longer promote adhesion. Close the bottle tightly straight after each use.

Application

• Clean the substrate first, for example with DINITROL 582
• Apply the activator evenly with a felt applicator, melamine sponge or clean lint-free cloth
• Work at temperatures between +5 and +35 °C
• Allow to dry for approx. 5 minutes (at 23 °C and 50 % humidity)

What you will need

Wool felt applicators or applicator foams are used for application, and the 582 cleaner for cleaning the substrate. You will find them in the surface preparation category.

Cutting wires, knives and scrapers for cutting out the old bead and removing the glass are in the automotive glass tools category.

The product is highly flammable and its vapours may cause dizziness. Work in a well-ventilated area and wear nitrile gloves and eye protection.

Where 540 fits in the pre-treatment system

540 activates the cut surface of the old adhesive and PU-RIM. For the ceramic edge of the new glass, use the black primers DINITROL 550 or the one-step 538 Plus, and DINITROL 520 KLEENACT for cleaning and activating the substrate.

Frequently Asked Questions – What exactly is 540 applied to?

To the cut surface of the old polyurethane adhesive left in the frame after the glass has been removed, and to glass with a factory-fitted polyurethane frame. It is not a primer for the ceramic edge of new glass.

My activator has thickened. Can I still use it?

No. Thickening means the activator has reacted with moisture in the air and can no longer promote adhesion. Using it would put the bond of the glass at risk.

Does it replace a black primer?

No. 540 is a clear activator without UV protection. The ceramic edge of the glass needs a black primer, which also protects the bonded joint from UV radiation.
