The Koch-Chemie large paint decontamination kit thoroughly removes flash rust, metal particles, tar, tree sap and other bonded contaminants that a normal wash leaves behind. The result is smoother, truly clean paint that is ready for the next detailing steps. Chemical and mechanical paint decontamination in one complete process. It removes flash rust, tar, tree sap and bonded contaminants and prepares the paint for polishing, wax, sealant or other protection.

Description

The Koch-Chemie large paint decontamination kit is put together to remove contaminants that stay on the surface even after a thorough wash. It deals with metal particles and flash rust first, then tar and bitumen, and finally bonded contamination using a clay bar.

Done correctly, decontamination leaves the surface noticeably smoother and lets you judge the real condition of the paint. It is a good preparation before polishing or applying protection. We always recommend inspecting the paint after mechanical decontamination. Depending on its condition, polishing may be needed before applying wax, sealant or a ceramic coating.

1. Wash the vehicle thoroughly first

We recommend starting decontamination on a thoroughly washed surface. Removing loose road dirt reduces the amount of abrasive particles that could put unnecessary stress on the paint in the following steps.

Work in the shade on a cool surface and do not let any of the products dry on the paint.

2. Reactive Rust Remover – flash rust and metal particles

Koch-Chemie Reactive Rust Remover (Rrr) 500 ml is a pH-neutral reactive cleaner for removing surface corrosion, metal particles, baked-on brake dust and other inorganic contaminants.

Use the product undiluted. Spray it evenly onto the surface and leave it to work for about 3 to 6 minutes. The product turns purple as it reacts with metal contaminants.

If needed, you can gently agitate the dirt with a suitable brush or wash tool. Then rinse the surface thoroughly with water.

Do not use Reactive Rust Remover on hot surfaces and do not let it dry. On sensitive materials such as polished aluminium, test compatibility on an inconspicuous area first.

3. Teerwäsche A – tar and bitumen removal

After removing the metal contamination, continue with Koch-Chemie Teerwäsche A 1 l.

It is a solvent-based special cleaner for removing tar and bitumen from solvent-resistant surfaces. The surface must be dry before application.

Apply Teerwäsche A undiluted to the affected areas only, such as the lower parts of the doors, sills or the areas behind the wheels. Leave it to work briefly and gently agitate the dirt if needed.

Then remove the product with a suitable cloth or rinse the surface thoroughly with a pressure washer. Always check compatibility with the specific surface before use.

4. Clay Bar – mechanical paint decontamination

Chemical decontamination is followed by mechanical cleaning with the Koch-Chemie blue clay bar 200 g.

The clay removes bonded residues of tree sap, insects, flash rust, industrial fallout, paint overspray, tar or mineral deposits from smooth surfaces that chemical cleaning did not fully remove.

Shape the clay bar to roughly the size of your palm and always use plenty of lubricant while working.

5. Clay Spray – safe glide when claying

Use Koch-Chemie Clay Spray 500 ml as the lubricant. It is made specifically for use with clay bars and clay pads.

Spray Clay Spray undiluted onto the working area so that it stays wet throughout. Then glide the clay bar over the surface in straight lines without unnecessary pressure until the surface feels smooth.

Clay Spray provides high slip, which helps minimise the risk of scratching during mechanical decontamination. It leaves no noticeable film and any residue is easily wiped off with a microfibre cloth.

How to work with a clay bar correctly

  • Clean and wash the paint thoroughly with chemical products first
  • Flatten the clay into a piece roughly the size of your palm
  • Apply plenty of Clay Spray to the working area
  • Glide the clay over the surface in straight lines without excessive pressure
  • When the working side becomes loaded, fold the dirt into the clay to create a new clean surface
  • Keep the surface well lubricated throughout
  • After use, moisten the clay and store it in its case so it does not dry out

Recommended step-by-step decontamination process

  • Pre-wash and wash the vehicle thoroughly
  • Apply Reactive Rust Remover to the cool surface
  • Let it react for about 3 to 6 minutes, then rinse thoroughly
  • Dry the areas with tar and apply Teerwäsche A to them
  • Leave it to work briefly and remove the dissolved dirt
  • Clean the surface thoroughly again after using Teerwäsche A
  • Continue with mechanical decontamination on the clean surface
  • Apply plenty of Clay Spray and work the clay bar without pressure
  • When finished, wipe the surface and wash the vehicle once more if needed
  • Inspect the paint and, depending on its condition, continue with polishing or a suitable protection

Frequently asked questions (FAQ) – Do I need to wash the car before decontamination?

Yes, we recommend starting with a thorough wash of the vehicle. Before using the clay bar, Koch-Chemie specifically recommends thoroughly pre-cleaning the surface with chemical products or pre-washing it.

How long should Reactive Rust Remover be left to work?

Apply Reactive Rust Remover undiluted and leave it to work for about 3 to 6 minutes. Then rinse the surface thoroughly. Do not let the product dry.

Does the surface have to be dry before using Teerwäsche A?

Yes. Koch-Chemie recommends applying Teerwäsche A undiluted to a dry surface, leaving it to work briefly and then rinsing it off or wiping it with a cloth.

Do I have to use Clay Spray when claying?

Yes, working with a clay bar requires sufficient lubrication. Clay Spray reduces friction between the clay and the surface and helps minimise the risk of scratching the paint.

Is the paint ready for a ceramic coating straight after decontamination?

Inspect the paint thoroughly after decontamination first. Depending on the condition and softness of the paint, the clay may leave fine marks, so polishing and surface preparation according to the instructions of the specific coating may be needed before applying a ceramic coating.
