DINITROL 4942 is a protective coating for full-surface and local treatment of the vehicle underbody. Once dry, it forms a firm brown wax film that protects the surface against corrosion, stone chips, wear and chemicals from road traffic.
The material adheres well to clean metal and painted surfaces as well as to existing PVC or similar protective coatings. It is also suitable for protecting parts, machinery and steel structures exposed to demanding corrosive environments.
More than 2000 hours in the salt spray test At a dry film thickness of 500 μm according to ISO 9227, and up to 3000 hours in a two-coat system.
Stone chip protection The firm wax film resists mechanical stress and wear on exposed underbody parts.
Wide compatibility The material does not harm zinc, rubber or plastic parts and also adheres to PVC protective coatings.
Safe for automotive paint According to the technical data sheet it has no effect on paint — painted parts nearby do not need to be masked.
It is also suitable for protecting components during storage and transport when they are exposed to an increased risk of corrosion.
The substrate must be clean, dry and free of corrosion before application. If corrosion is already present on the surface, it should first be treated with the penetrating product DINITROL ML or a suitable cavity wax before applying the final protective coat.
Once dry, the protective coat is approximately 300–500 μm thick. At a dry film thickness of 500 μm the protection lasts more than 2000 hours in the salt spray test according to ISO 9227.
In a two-coat system, resistance can reach up to 3000 hours. The result depends on the condition of the substrate, surface preparation and keeping to the application conditions.
Final coat with no subsequent painting DINITROL 4942 is used as the final underbody protective coating. It is not painted over after application.
How to protect the underbody against corrosion properly?
For a complete anti-corrosion treatment, the condition of the substrate, proper preparation and the right combination of penetrating coat and final protective coat are what matter. In our guide you will find a practical procedure and recommendations for applying underbody materials.

Removal hydrocarbon solvents
DINITROL 4942 is suitable as a final protective coat for the underbody and other exposed external parts. Cavity waxes, on the other hand, are designed mainly to penetrate seams, cavities and internal sections.
The main difference is the appearance of the final coat: 4942 leaves a brown wax film, DINITROL 4941 / CAR a black bitumen one. The recommended coat thickness is the same for both, 300–500 μm dry film.
Yes, with a hydrocarbon solvent such as white spirit. Fresh overspray outside the treated area can be removed the same way.
