DINITROL 4941 / CAR is a black bitumen coating for long-term protection of the entire underbody or selected parts of it. It is applied with a UBS gun directly from the 1 litre can and dries to a final coat that is not painted over. Over 2000 hours in the salt spray test – at the recommended coat thickness, adheres to PVC and paint – safe for zinc, rubber and plastics, from −20 °C to +130 °C – does not crack in frost or on a hot underbody.

DINITROL 4941 / CAR is a solvent-based bitumen protective coating for both complete and local underbody treatment. Once dry, it forms a firm black protective film with high wear resistance and good flexibility.
It is used in vehicle production, pre-delivery preparation and subsequent anti-corrosion treatment in workshops. It is also suitable for protecting spare parts, machinery and steel structures exposed to highly corrosive environments.
Withstands water and road dirt The firm protective film is designed for underbody parts exposed to water, grit and mechanical stress.
Resistance in salty environments At a dry film thickness of 500 μm the protection lasts more than 2000 hours in the ISO 9227 salt spray test.
Compatible with underbody materials Adheres to metal and painted surfaces as well as existing PVC coatings, and does not harm zinc, rubber or plastic parts.
Temperature stability The coat keeps its adhesion at low temperatures and withstands temperatures up to +130 °C.
The defining features of 4941 / CAR are its bitumen base and black final finish. Once dry, it forms a firm protective coat with good adhesion and wear resistance.
This makes the material especially suitable where robust black protection is required for the underside of the vehicle and for components exposed to harsh environments.
It can also be used to protect parts during storage or transport in environments with an increased risk of corrosion.
For direct application, the substrate must be clean, dry and free of corrosion. If corrosion is already present, first treat the surface with a penetrating product such as DINITROL ML or a suitable cavity wax.
What you will need for the job
Use a UBS gun to apply from the 1 litre can, and the DINITROL UBS/HR gun for series work and an adjustable spray pattern. Extension nozzles help you reach closed sections and hard-to-access areas.
Check the applied coat with a coating thickness gauge — the life of the protection depends directly on it.
Cover the surrounding parts with material from the masking category and work with gloves and eye protection.
Have white spirit and wipes ready to wipe off overspray.
Once dry, the coat is approximately 300–500 μm thick. In a two-coat system, salt spray resistance can reach up to 3000 hours.
The result depends mainly on surface preparation, an even spray and keeping to the recommended thickness — a thinner coat means a shorter protection life.
Final protective coat DINITROL 4941 / CAR is not intended to be painted over. The black protective film forms the final finish.
How to protect the underbody against corrosion properly?
Effective underbody protection starts with a correct assessment of the corrosion, surface preparation and the choice of a suitable penetrating coat and top coat. In our guide you will find a practical procedure and application recommendations.

Removal hydrocarbon solvents
DINITROL 4941 / CAR is a black bitumen-based protective coating. DINITROL 4942 forms a brown wax protective film. Both products are intended for long-term underbody protection but differ in composition and in the appearance of the protective coat.
First clean off the corrosion mechanically and treat the surface with a suitable penetrating product, for example DINITROL ML. The final underbody protection can then be applied.
You cannot reliably tell by estimate — the difference between 300 and 500 μm cannot be judged by eye, yet it significantly changes the life of the protection. Use a coating thickness gauge and check the coat in several places.
Yes, with a hydrocarbon solvent such as white spirit. Fresh overspray outside the treated area can be removed the same way.
